Passport fishing

Updated 17th August 2014
Please let me know if any of the links no longer work - or - if you know of any other passport waters not shown here.

Passport fishing is a wonderful way to try fishing many different waters all over the country for very little expense. I suggest that you check out the websites below to get a feel for where you may readily and fairly cheaply fly fish.

The first seven passport sites are organised by wild trout fishing.co.uk. Which is formed from the Wild Trout trust and the Rivers Trust

Peak Passport
The Peak Passport fishing link has been updated. David Blench is now the contact for these beats.
The Peak Passport scheme is my nearest fishing. I fished it on a number of occasions during the early mayfly season a few years ago.
Waders were needed for the fishing, and the steep banks made it at times laboursome, but the price makes it easily worthwhile.

The Wye & Usk Passport
I fished some of the passport beats in the summer of 2012. The ones I picked had easy wading, plus the fish were rising to mayfly emergers. Delightful – even the rain didn’t put off the fish, though it did put a damper on my husbands reading on the river bank that day.
The Wye & Usk foundation as well as being dedicated to restoring and keeping the rivers in the best possible condition, offer a huge selection of fishing on rivers, reservoirs and  lakes. Unfortunately, for the occasional angler, they no longer offer the ‘token’ beats, there is a fixed fee instead.
You can search for the fishing online. A useful tool is the online catch returns, where anglers give impartial feedback on the beats they’ve fished:
As well as the salmon and trout fishing, you will find grayling, chub, pike, dace and barbell. Plus the wildlife in and around the river: otter, kingfisher, dipper, or even see the rare visitors: Allis and Twaite shad; sea lamprey; sea trout and, if you are lucky, the osprey.

West Country Angling Passport
The fishing stretches from Penzance, its most westerly fishing to beyond Bridgewater and Taunton in the East.
As an angler using the passport scheme and fishing responsibly, you are contributing to the West Country Rivers Trust. See more detail on this on my page ‘Fishing conservation groups’.

You can also use your Tokens on the following schemes - further details on each scheme can be found on the websites listed below:
